REVIEW: “A recital of spanish and catalan music with rigour and emotion”

August 17th, 2015. “Sometimes the interest of a concert relies in the name and the personality of the performer, other times the emblematic place where it is performed, and in other occasions, more unusual, for the programme presented. The conjunction of those three blended toguether in the excellent concert that Alex Alguacil offered at the Palau de la Música Catalana the past 17th August, included in the season Summer at Palau, thanks to the union between the Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música and the Fundació Mas i Mas, in the 13th San Miguel Mas i Mas Festival. The journey which was offered to us by this Catalan pianist was an itinerary through the piano literature from the 20th and 21st centuries, from the folklorism of Granados and Falla until the mysticism of Mompou and the contemporarity of Casablancas and Brotons. A real present that we should thank to this soloist, since it is very unusual to hear a whole programme of Spanish and Catalan music in our auditories, always filled with foreign music, and on the other hand with the rigour and emotion which they were performed with (…) It’s not about presenting a lot of everything, but rather to offer a lot of quality, as was the case by the art of the pianist Alex Alguacil.
