Screen Shot 2015-10-18 at 18.53.42Frederic Mompou – Suburbis – Palau de la Música. New video, recorded live at Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, with music by Catalan composer Frederic Mompou. Considered by many critics to be one of his   first mature works, Suburbis is inspired in scenes, sounds and environments of the industrial Barcelona at the beginning  of the 20th century. The composer himself talks about this piece: “These are the Suburbs, the furthermost quarters of the town. This idea, along with the Scènes d’enfants, belongs to the days when I used to take long walks in the surroundings of Barcelona”. This piece, which presents musical aspects closer to those from the impressionism, is divided in 5 movements: The street, the guitarist and the old horse, presents a street of the workers’ part of the city at sunset. Later on, a guitarist plays a melancholic waltz; then an old horse stumbles back into his stable. Gipsies, divided in two parts, bring out the romantic aspect of some fortune-telling gipsies, followed by a dance expressing various feelings. The blind little one depicts the pathetic figure of an innocent blind girl. The suite ends with The man of the barrel organ, an old beggar playing his instrument out of tune. Watch video
