Gershwin Piano Concerto with Barcelona Municipal Band

L’Auditori - We finish the season with the visit of Alex Alguacil, pianist from Barcelona with a great international projection, who will be championing the extremely difficult and spectacular Concerto in F by George Gershwin, the North American composer who created the symphonic jazz genre by fusing the rhythms and harmonies of African American music with the European tradition of classical music.  The American music that is the star of this concert is completed by the most famous work of Ferde Grofé, Grand Canyon Suite, a composer who had already become famous a few years earlier for having done the instrumentation of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Grofé manages to turn the grandiose American landscape into music: a nature of sound filled with energy, rhythm and sensitivity. More info.
